I have an NTSC Interlaced source (Dancer in the Dark) and I'm told from the guide that if I have NTSC then I need to perform IVTC, which I select when saving the avs file from Gknot. Then when I go to encode in VDub using DivX 5 Pro, and get to this point in the guide under General Parameters, Source Interlace:

"Normally you do everything but rip your legs out to have progressive input so set this to All frames are progressive."

But since my source is Interlaced, and I was not told to do anything about it (unless this is what activating IVTC does), shouldn't I put it to "All frames are interlaced"?

I believe you're confusing "telecined" and "interlaced"; it's the former in which you perform IVTC (InVerse TeleCine). I don't use Gordian Knot, so I'm unsure how you would determine your source material type with it.

In any case, the general consensus is that the deinterlace algorithm within the DivX codec is subpar. Therefore, you're better off performing IVTC or deinterlacing using VirtualDub or AviSynth filters. Then, you set the codec to treat all frames as progressive, as the guide suggested.

Subpar? I'm not even sure it works at all. I spent about 2 hours the other night wanting to test it. The codec kept throwing bogus "invalid log file" messages at me:mad:

Maybe it was just me but I tried everything to get the 1st pass started.
