I have a cd from a friend with the following folder structure:

Install
Video_ts ...........Inside this folder is this Vts_01_1.vob file almost 600mb in size.

The question is simple what is the format of this file? I want to create a vcd from it and I´ve tried and so far nothing.

Any hints??

No .ifo file? I would guess you have sth like a miniDVD ... in that case the vob should be pretty much a standard .VOB as you would find them on a DVD. Standard tools for demuxing etc. should work ... what's in the "install" folder? Some DVD player soft?

Just be bold and try to open the file somehow with some app. How do you put that in English? 'He who doesn't dare, doesn't win'? ;)

Inside the install folder there is another 3 folders, the content it´s for playing , I can even open the file with wmplayer and the divx code installed.
DIVX
MediaPlayer
MicroDVD

I tried to create the vcd using Virtualdub, TMPGEnc and finally NERO, but I get a mpeg file with audio but no video, so I think there must be something special in the format of this video file.
I used VObsplit to get smaller files, but the split files are no longer working, so I think it´s not a standart vob file......and then I´m lost..........

OK, OK - if you managed to open the file in VirtualDub, you should be able to get some 'file info' (sorry, I don't know any menues by heart). Look for an option like this in the 'file' menue. Try to find out what codec has been used for the file.

Another question: Can you see any of the video's contents in VirtualDub's window?

OK, get this
http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Editing/AviC.zip
and open your file with it. What info does it display?

the display is:

FourCC Description code: div4
FourCC USed Codec :DIV3

If I'm not all wrong here, you've got a movie encoded in DivX4 but haven't got DivX4 or 5 installed. If you are sure that you already have DivX4 or 5 installed, only the fourcc is messed up.

Change the fourcc used from DIV3 to DIV4.
Change the ending of the file from .vob to .avi.
Download and install the DivX 5 codec from DivX.com if you haven't done that already.

Try to open the file again and tell me if it worked.

I have divx3, 4 and 5 installed one after another, the file opens I have no problems with that, but changing the format to vcd causes loosing the video. And I can't correct that. I think it's because I don't know how to use TMPGenc and virtualdib.....
So if anyone can give me a hint, because following the procedures in the guides page didn't solved the problem

Ack, forgive me, the correct foucc should be DIVX, not DIV4!

I haven't got any experiences with (S)VCDs but if you have problems with VDub and TMPEG, you could try the all-in-one solutions that are available.

I just found what was the problem, I comited a huge mistake when I installed divx 5 because virtualdub only wanted to used that codec, I uninstalled the codec and used divx 4 to save the file as a standart divx avi. Then I created with tmpgenc the mpeg for my vcd.

:D
