View Full Version : Does Vdub support dual CPU?

I am starting to think my next computer build will not be a dual processor one. Seem that a lot of my favorite programs don't use dual CPUs well. I think I will stick to just one AMD 2000+ XP. I really only use Vdub for my encoding.

I'm the market for a dual processor system also. And I would like direct proof of dual processor compatibiliy. Can someone post a link here from a reliable source saying that vbud ACCUALLY does use dual processors.
Also wondering if CCESP or TMPEG also does. If anyone can find a link saying that those do, or if someone has a dual processor system that they coudl post here and say which programs they have used that they notice definetly use dual processors

Well, it is using separate threads for encoding the audio and the video. I wouldn't think it were able to do much more then this for supporting two cpus.

encoding 2 sources at the same time (using two instances of vdub) is more efficient.
(i've tried it on my dual athlon).

I can verify that for you ,as my brother has a dual pentium 3 @866Mhz and i have a Duron 700@933Mhz so...more or less half the procesing power. (also i have 384Mb RAM ,and he has double that too)

But from a first impression it seems VirtualDub needed the same time to compress the same file with the same settings.I will have to verify though, dont take my word for it yet.

What is most certain to work fine though,is opening up 2 virtualdub programms ,as maven said, and encoding silmutaneously ;)
