Hi,
I have encoded a few chapters of my movie, including SVCD subtitles with DVD2SVCD... The quality and all is great but with PowerDVD and my standalone player I cannot get the subtitles to work! I have not made an image but just burned the "BBmux_title_subbed.mpg" with Nero as SVCD...
Is it because I have to enable VCDimage first or is there a possibility to test my movie with PowerDVD with only an MPEG file?
Again thanks for all your support.
Greetz

Read the forum rules. It is bad form to use exclamation points.
Read the Newbie FAQ and the Q + A. Read the Mandatory Welcome post.
No software DVD player plays subtitles and many standalone players do not either. Check the list at www.vcdhelp.com to see if your unit supports subs.
Also there are two kinds of subs SVCD and CVD some players will play one, but not the other.

Well, quite confusing. On the vcdhelp site it says it can play back SVCD subtitles, but another user says it dooesn't...
But my question is: do the subtitles mux in in the MPG file or are they added when you make an image?! And if so, isn't there a program that can show me info if a MPG file contains subs or not?
Thanx!

The bbMPEG_Muxed_File-subbedxx.mpg file is with audio track and subtitles, but no software player is able to display subtitles from SVCD.

Well, I have tried CDRwin to burn and it gives me a sort of audio CD (I used the CUEsheet generated by DVD2SVCD)... Really strange...
I use for software DVD playback PowerDVD 4.0 XP (i now know it won't playback subtitles) and for standalone the Cyberhome ADL 528...
I've also tried to make permanent subtitles... but this gives me sometimes the Avisynth acces violation, and IF it works, the subtitles look horrible!
Now, I try to make a MiniDVD to give me subtitles, only it's too complicated for me right now...
So anybody any ideas?
Thanx in advance!

Use cdrdao instead or try the daemon tools method described here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19415

Well, I'm just using the 1x speed version, so it's not pirated...
But, will this fix my subtitle problem? I mean I have no problems using Nero, the only thing is there are no subtitles (while there are reports that SVCD subtitles should work with my standalone player).
Thanx

OK ... let's get back to your original question. Subs are muxed into the mpeg streams, and playback should not be dependant on your burning app.
Whether your player supports subtitles or not is another question ... as previously mentioned, try using either CVD- or SVCD-style subs. Maybe give I-AUthor a try as well (its subs should be CVD-style, but somebody reported differences to submux-generated CVD-style subs).
As for Cyberhome, subtitle support might depend on your firmware revision ...
On vcdhelp.com and www.vcdimager.org there used to be SVCD test images containing working subtitles - try those to see if it was perhaps an authoring problem on your side.

OK thanx, very much info in that link! I will try some new methods (I-author, etc) and see what happens...
The only thing I have to be sure of is that the MPG file that I burn with Nero contains the sub info. So it doesn't depend on wheter I use an image (with VCDxbuild, etc).
Isn't there an utility that let me analyze the MPG file and let's me know if it contains any subtitles?
Thanx

Check out this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19415) to find out how to burn SVCDs created by DVD2SVCD. Sometimes the method used for burning can cause lots of different problems but the method described there appears to work for everyone.
Lots of Luck
