Divx5.0 compare with Xvid_27.01.02

Divx5 sample encode in 2pass, 1200bps, 720x416, 25fps
Xvid_H263 sample encode in 2pass, 720x416, 25fps
Xvid_MPEG sample encode in 2pass, 720x416, 25fps

File Size:
Divx 5.0 = 34.4MB (4:00 playing time, 6000frames)
Xvid_H263 = 35.4MB (4:00 playing time, 6000frames)
Xvid_MPEG = 35.4MB (4:00 playing time, 6000frames)

#Decode postprocessing level = min. (0)

You can view MPEG-4 codecs comparisor from http://www.nixed-hq.com and press "Codec Comparisor" link

Also http://mukoli.free.fr/video/ has some codecs comparisor DivX 4 vs DivX 5.

I use in my test (www.nixed-hq.com) postprocessing level:
0=DivX 3.11 SBC
0=DivX 4
0=XviD
0=DivX 5

This is because we really want to know what quality MPEG-4 codecs really make, not how good filters can smooth the picture. XviD win The Matrix test. But when it compare to DivX 5 it doesn't so good ;-)

Are you sure that DivX5 has post-processing turned off? From the very first screenshot, it looks like the deblocking filter in full swing.

Remember, even if you decode with vfw in VirtualDub, DivX5 still applies post-processing. As a test, change the FourCC of the XviD video to divx/DX50 and try the comparison again :) Or, force post-processing off in DivX5 through the filter properties.
