How to play AC3 on a stereo-equipment?

Hi,

i have encoded a divx 4.0 file and muxed it with AC3 audio, which works fine for me, since I have a dolby-digital decoder connected to my sb audigy.

A friend of mine has only a very cheap stereo soundcard with stereo speakers. How will he be able to listen to the Ac3 content downmixed to stereo? At the moment, he hears nothing. Will PowerDivx Nexgen do the job, or will he need an additional decoding plugin from a commercial DVD-player software?

All your friend needs is the AC3 filters installed and any of the common players(ZP, BSplayer or PowerDivx) will be able to downmix it for stereo.
