I was thinking getting onto my hd would be the first step, which I did usuing DVDDecryter3, which program should I look into using next on my way to copying it or even viewing it, then once I do the next step I will come back and find out what to do, but right now I dont know which direction to go?? Ok well im also a newbie to this, first week and learning very quickly...........i use Dvdcypter to strip the main movie files from the disc, and onto my HD, the next tool that you will need is vobrator, this helps you spot the id no`s which make up the film, as you will need to strip parts of the film away.....thats with the next tool which is IFOEDIT..their are plently of help files around which explain it in much greater detail........but i know how you feel as what they say sometimes feels like double dutch but stick with it..i have finished my first film today......feels great!

Here's another way to make DVDs into DivX. I've never done it myself, I just happened to find the link.

Ugghhhh.....a link to a Flask tutorial. *sigh*

Please, please check out the Gordianknot guide at www.doom9.org

It's very easy to use, takes you through it step by step, and you can encode 10x as easy as Flask.

Trust me.

I'll help.

Start at www.doom9.org.

On the left hand side, you'll see a set of links: News, Old News, The Guides ...

Near the bottom, click on DVD Basics. This is a two part guide that covers aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9, DAR, etc) and covers the content and structure of DVD files (VOB, IFO, BUP).

Back up to www.doom9.org.

Click on The Guides. Note that every link in the guides is in brown (http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm).

Start with DivX guides. I recommend, when first using GKnot, to begin with the guides under DivX4.

Under the DivX4 guide, you'll see several methodologies. Click on GKnot. The GKnot DivX4 guides are brown links under Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3.

Keep reading. Experiment. Make mistakes. Learn.

ok next step

1.start gordian knot

2.click on the ripping tab

3.click on the DVD2AVI button.this will start a prog called dvd2avi.it is used to extract the audio from the files you have already ripped.

-click on file>open - select the first vob file(dvd2avi will select the rest for you).then click o.k

-click on options>preview - look at the preview.it will tell you if its 4:3 OR 16:9.note which,we will need it later.exit the preview.

-click on VIDEO menu - if your film is PAL uncheck"forcefilm"if it is NTSC make sure it is checked.

-click on AUDIO menu>track number and check "track 1"(this is usually the english audio.if you want another language let me know and we'll go through how to extract it).

-click on AUDIO menu again and then scroll to CHANNEL FORMAT and check AUTO SELECT.

-click on AUDIO menu again and scroll to DOLBY DIGITAL and check DEMUX

-click on FILE menu and select SAVE PROJECT.save it where you want and press O.K - this will save the ac3 audio file and give you a d2v file that we will load into gordian knot later.

once you've done that we'll go on to the next step

NOTE:the first audio track is'nt always english.it maybe easier to re-rip the movie with SMARTRIPPER that comes with gordian knot as it will write a file that tells you which audio track is in which langauge and puts it in the same folder as your vobs.
if not just check track 1 and cross your fingers.

at this point i will need some info.

go back into dvd2avi and go to preview again.it will tell you whether your movie is interlaced or progressive.take a note of which and let me know.

also do you want the movie on 1 cd or 2(we can easily achive a good movie on 1 if it is 2hrs or less)and what sound format and bitrate do you want to use.(eg mp3)

is the movie PAL or NTSC?

if i know this ahead it will be easier.
