Firstly i haven't any expe. with Divx4.
Taken from Xvid help:
'If the average quantizer in 2nd pass is e.g. 3.7, you should use .h263 quantization type, if 2.5 it's better to use MPEG quant type on first pass.'

Three questions/suggestion to this fine manual/Guide

Where to find those values.. (2.5/3.7):confused:

'If you use low bitrates, .h263 quant type is you choice'

Low bitrate = 200-500 or 500-1000 or?:confused:

Perhaps a little more about this option .h263 or MPEG quant and when to use what. (in conversion from DVD/AVI/MPEG)in the manual...

I have to admit I don't know that either. ;)
Could be a function of Koepi's .stats-file-reader that I've never used (I should be ashamed, but on the other hand I believe Koepie has never used GKnot and not ashamed of it either. :))

In the end, this isn't about bitrates but about the quantizers. Quantizers above 4 tend to look better if they are h.263, not MPEG-quantizers. As a rule of thumb, use h.263 if you're aiming for one CD, and MPEG if aiming for two. Or download Koepi's XviD-compile and use 'modulated' quantizers, i.e. it switches from MPEG to h.263, automatically at quant 4. Isn't that in the guides somewhere?

Tks for your help.. I think i have got it now...

1) Make a first pass with H.263...

2) Choose 2 pass int. and change to modulated. and enter videosize in desired file size...

Jupps.
It's just about some theory that might or might not work.
It shouldn't make any difference which quant type you choose on first pass... but for 99.9999% of all cases .h263 would work as expected. As I wrote as well in the XOE, this matter is still to investigate.
