DVD play function

HI,

I am Using the latest version of ifoedit. When i load the Video_ts.ifo from the movie i have ripped, and then press the DVD play option, i GET A WARNING No DVD Video volume could be located.
If you select continue the player works ok and plays the movie.
Any idea's

I have no idea what that exactly means.
It's something in the directX SDK Interface, that requires that there is a DVD Rom installed, or btw, that there is already a MPEG2 decoder in the system installed.

I hope it will get better in next DirectX SDK release, cause the v8.1 is a preliminary version, that will be changed.

If I leave a DVD in the drive when useing the Play DVD function I don't get the warning any more. As soon as I remove the DVD from the drive it comes back.

Do you have a SCSI or IDE DVD Rom drive ?

Strange. I just also got the DVD Player working on my Notebook, where's no DVD Rom installed.

I just updated to DirectX 8.0, and WinDVD and PowerDVD 4.0 has been already installed before.

Derrow, Just had a thought. The motherboard iam using is Abit KR7A Raid. I have 4 x Maxtor L080J4 ATA 133 HDD's on the HTP372(ATA 133) IDE channel. And then my Pioneer 106 On IDE 0 (Master) ,Plextor 24/10/A on IDE 0 (Slave), Pioneer A03 on IDE 1 (Master). And I boot From ATA 133.
This May Be The Problem.

i have winXP which has directx installed already, but when i hit dvd play nothing happens other than ifoedit just closes, dissapears with no warning, experience this anyone?

I just experineced a strange things.
My DVD-Player alway's crashed with an error.

The reason was, my C: drive was no longer present.
I installed my system on drive E:, and yesterday I 'subst' it as C: to install MS VC, and today the DVD player didn't work anymore, until I 'subst' my E: drive agian as C:

So if the DVD player won't work, there's something wrong in the system, especial at the DirectX installation.

Let us check out this further.

are you telling me my drive has to be c:? becuase my system has two hard drives and they are G: and Q: heh, i dont have a C:

So I just made a:
subst c: e:\

my motherboard is a tyan tiger dual amd ( amd north bridge chipset ) and i also get that warning ... have a toshiba dvd-rom/cd-r drive installed so all the dvd drivers are present but i also get the same error UNLESS i have a dvd in my drive OR i map out my temp dir ( with AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS ) to a M: drive and open the ifo's from their.... doesnt seem to hurt anything that i can tell .... but i'm also still a newbie at ifoedit , but from now on i think i will work off the maped M drive :-)

I also get "no valid dvd video volume" then crash.Do you mean i have to install Ifo edit on the c: drive to work properly?It's on my I: drive now.

I also saw that error about No DVD Video volume could be located, and then I noticed that if I had a dvd in my dvd drive then the movie that I was watching was the one in my dvd drive and if I choose to continue then it would go ahead and play the one that I had opened with ifoedit. I thought that it just automatically looked at the dvd drive first, by default??

Hope that this helps or hope that I learn more about all of this.

I am having a DVD Play problem identical to the one described by 'thetered'.

Whenever I try to use the DVD play feature, IFOEdit closes (i.e. crashes) and asks me to send an application error report to the folks at Microsoft.

Installed on my PC is...
WinXP Professional
Directx 8.1
Cyberlink PowerDVD XP 4.0

Anyone figure out what is happening here?

Note DirectShow provides all the filters necessary to navigate and play DVD-Video except the MPEG-2 decoder. To play DVDs using an application based on DirectShow, users must have installed on their system a third-party hardware or software decoder that is DirectShow-compatible.

I was unaware that your DVD Play feature leveraged the Microsoft DirectShow/Directx SDK.

My PC has multiple MPEG-2 decoders installed (Cinemaster-Ravisent, Cyberlink, etc), which in theory should enable your DVD Play feature to work. The reality is, however, that there are some still unresolved conflicts that can arise for WinXP users when third-party DVD players like PowerDVD are installed.

I suspect this is the problem that 'thetered' and I have run into.

The Windows Media Mayer for WinXP supports DVD playback *IF* you have an MPEG-2 decoder from Microsoft's short list of decoders. My DVD playback in Windows Media Player worked great UNTIL I installed a Cyberlink PowerDVD XP 4.0. Now PowerDVD works great and my Windows Media Player crashes everytime I play a DVD (just like IFOEDIT).

I have been swapping emails with some developers at Ms. I will give you an update if I learn anything. Seems to be some sort of default decoder conflict.

Well I am having the same problem with dvd volume not found and I too have a Pionneer 106 dvdrom drive in ide 0.

I've got the same problem and it quit after upgrading some of the dvd sw players. After running a few test this am this is what I get.

I double checked that the audio and video filters are registered. In media player, I loaded a m2v file from a demuxed VOB file and it plays ok. I load the audio ac3 file and the audio is broken.

The PowerDVD XP and WinDVD 31 audio filters are registered. The PowerDVD, WinDVD, and Zoom Player work fine; just windows media and DVDPlay is broken. The system is Win98se.

i found that the windvd ac3 decoder overwrites the powerdvd one .. well it doesnt overwrite it .. but it uses the windvd one first then goes to powerdvd if it cant find it ( some regestry scouring is the only way i know to fix )

so if i have this dvd volume not found is it a problem with the dvd player in ifoedit or will my project not actually play properly?
