Strange thing just happened, I have just got round to using 1.4.9 and it had been encoding for around 2 hours when Sysgate persoonal firewall caught it trying to connect to the internet. This is what it says:
VirtualDub video processing tool is trying to send an ICMP Type 11 (Time Exceeded for Datagram) packet to (217.229.139.120). Do you want to allow this program access to the network?
I have never had this happen with any previous versions and have the latest virus checkers installed. Is it really trying to dial home or something?

Excuse me for sounding a bit dim, but what does that mean exactly? (I am not too knowlegeable in this area) I didn't configure a firewall rule so I would be alerted if it happened again but it hasn't. I am just a little curious as to what was occuring.

That's info about the IP address you posted .. your packet's destination address was to someone located in Germany

Thank you both for the replies. I'm curious as to why VirtualDub wanted to connect with anyone in Germany (or anywhere else for that matter) but I'm not going to loose too much sleep over it.

Could it be you were using the Ad-version of DivX 5 pro?
Cause i don't believe it was VirtualDub calling home. I would say it was the codec used by VirtualDub, that wanted to call mama ;)
