I am not a complete newbie I got on really well with the old version of Gordian Knot the one where you had to do the audio seperate etc (much more work) I got 1 cd rips at a good (high) resolutions and with high bit rate for both video and audio but since updating to the new version I have tried about 6 movies now all have said they need a resolution of 512 or lower (which I hate) or the % is lower than 60% (mostly PAL movies). The movie I am trying to do now is reservoir dogs which is only 95mins and still I had to use a 512 X 224 resolution and that still only gave a bit rate of 109 (size without audio 607meg). The only filters I use/change is I change bilinear to soft bilinear. I have followed the guides and read them over and over and can't see anything that I could be doing wrong, I have Follow ITU-R BT .601 Standard turned off.

the other big problem I have is some audio it starts doing it all then says something about the mp3 file size is 0, I think it might be a lame problem (because I didn't have it in the Gordian Knot folder) but putting lame.exe in the folder still gave the same 0 size error.

I have put some screen shots of Gordian Knot running at the bottom if anyone can see what I am doing wrong (512X244 is to low for me and a 95min movie shouldn't need 2 cds)

any help would be very much appreciated.

Your LAME size of zero is probably because you're using --alt-preset, a LAME 3.9 parameter. GKnot 0.23 has an older release of LAME. Doom9 recommends installing LAME 3.91.

Have you considered that it might be the content causing you grief? You might try adding a noise filter to your compressability check. It will increase encoding time but can significantly improve compressability.

EDIT: I can't tell if --alt-preset is the audio problem, since you haven't copied a GKnot log into your post. It's just a guess, however, it appears to be a frequent error for people to forget to install LAME 3.91 when they're following the guide.

I have installed lame 3.91 and I put in in the knot folder as well as a sub folder called lame (wasn't sure were to put it) i'll try a noise filter now to see if it helps.

Well, that's a compressability check log, so your sound settings won't be in it. But as long as you've got 3.91 installed, using --"alt-preset 128" should work just fine.

I'm sure there are many other forum members who can make recommendations; those were just the first few I thought of.

Expert, I'm not. Opinionated, I am. :D

whats the name of the log with the sound in it? also I just tried a 5% encode with little noise filter and it only made 0.1 difference in the % @ 512 resolution, should I try deinterlacing or is that NTSC only?
