Not sure that this post is in the right forum, but i give it a try.

I read the new DVD2SVCD guide and see this:
Finally select the authoring program. If you have I-Author and it works better for you select that, otherwise leave it at the default of VCDXBuild. If you don't need images select Don't make images.

I have tried both, and it seems to me that both have its own "force's"/ drawback's.

VCDXBuild give a output-result that plays perfect in my Mustek 260, but i cant get it to work with SVCD-subtitles.....

I-Author give a somewhat more unstable result with some peculiar behavior. Some CD's (NOT ALL) go repeating when it have recieved the end, instead of stopping/ show the CD-change logo. BUT whit this software i can get SVCD-subtitles 99% perfect (it seems like it sometimes loses a sentence or something, but this is not important)

Is VCDXBuild not able to create SVCD subs?
Is it I-Author that creates the pecularities (?) described above ?, or could it be Easy CD Creator 4.02 ??

I would really appreciate some help here as i have tried it all (i think.)

1) vcdxbuild cannot create subs. The subs used by vcdxbuild are muxed by submux, which can use SVCD or CVD subtitles;
2) Iauthor is the culprit of those playback "peculiarities". The subtitles muxed by Iauthor are CVD stile ONLY. It doesn't matter if you had selected SVCD nor CVD at subtitle tab.

It seems that your player can play CVD stile only... Test if this is what is happening, downloading those images available in Q&A thread (Q17, I think).

But i have tried VCDXBuild with CVD text and still no text.....

then, there are some more tests that you should do:

1) use CVD subtitles with vcdimage instead of vcdxbuild;
2) run Iauthor muxer handly, checkmarking PS option. This will make a .ps output instead of .mps file. Rename it from .ps to .mpg and make a svcd image using VCDeasy with this mpg file.

If option (1) works, this mean that your player cannot handle svcd with PBC and subtitles at the same time. If not, this mean that you will need to stick with Iauthor.

If option (2) works, this mean that "mux with Iauthor + make image with vcdxbuild" could be a wonderful new feature of DVD2SVCD.:cool:

Do these tests and give us your feedback.

I tried another "solution".
I used an "old" image made with I-Author that failed i respect to stopping at the end of the movie, and runned CDmage.exe on it and get me some CUE/BIN-files, and then I tried to burn it with Blindwrite (instead of Easy CD-creator), and now the movie stopped at the end !!!

Could this be a coinsident or ???

The downloaded image: "PAL with CVD style subtitles", from the FAQ worked like a charm....
I, am going to test both the other image's and see if I can find out what is going on.

I have tested the diffrent Images I downloaded (from the FAQ).

NTSC with CVD style subtitles. This sample has also a nice Menu, so you can test PBC features also;
PAL with CVD style subtitles;
NTSC with SVCD style subtitles.

Of these three only the version marked PAL worked as it should.

I also did a complete new encoding of Matrix using I-Author combined with CDmage, 48Khz sound, and i 4:3 format (looks better on my Sony TV) and it works !!! BOTH the subtitle, AND the DVD chapters !!! (It also stop at the end of the movie :-) :D )

When i use 4:3 the picture has the same format as the original, and not these BIG black borders on top, and bottom.
It look's like when i chose to use 16:9 DVD2SVCD change the format different from the original, BUT when i've encode an originally 4:3 movie the result stays the same (as it does when I encode a 16:9 movie as a 4:3). :D :D :)
