Hey everyone,
Has anyone else had any problems with divx5pro? I try to encode a file with a different bitrate but all I get is a black screen. I'm able to use 4.12 divx and media player works fine with divx5. What could be the problem?
Also, when compressing audio in vdub the Mpeg-layer 3 codec only goes up to 56kbits/s at 24khz, how do I get higher bitrates?
Thanks

Install Radium mp3 codec and you should be able to select higher bitrates. Why don't you try BeSweet instead??? Far better...
And...cannot help you with your first question. Post some more info(settings, etc.)

Anything I encode with divx5pro shows only a blackscreen on playback. I use the same basic settings as I do for divx4.12, which works perfectly for me. I just use the default settings of virtualdub and modify the bitrate. What settings or configurations could cause this?

Did you follow Doom9's guide??
Maybe you have cracked version of Divx5 installed?? It's known to cause some problems. Get rid of it. Try reinstalling divx5.
Oh..one more thing - try looking for a similiar problem in the Divx5 forum.

I got divx5 from divx.com. doom9's guide seems incomplete or assumes too much. sigh...

Can you be more specific???
ALL Doom9's guides are very east to follow. I know that Doom9 writes them as easy as possible. Although a basic knowledge is always recommended.
Divx5 guide is complete and is also very easy for newbies.
So I don't understand why you say that...

If you open your finished AVI in VirtualDub, can you have VDub play it (e.g. pressing the "Play Input"-Button, the triangle with the "I", the second on the left bottom)? Does this behaviour change if you enable or disable the usage of DirectShow support in the Options menu?

same thing here, although it doesn't matter what avi-util you use.
AviUtil, virtual-dub or Aviedit. Everything works great with 4.12 codec and I have red some other posts concerning this in Divx.com and the moderators says it's a known bug just waiting to be corrected..
My friend has also the same basic 5.0 codec like me and everything works great with him in virtua-dub 1.4.8.. I tried with both pro and simple 5.0 codec in virtual-dub 1.4.9 (and some VERY old version of virtual-dub and all I get is this black screen with sound in every avi editor..this is strange..
He has athlon and radeon 7500..I have P3 and Ge2 mx..something to do with overlay? Nvidia drivers? we have both Win XP so I am very confused here..could this be really a Nvidia issue?
