Hi. I just did my first two encodes with Divx and have been experiencing some problems. I used GKnot and
followed Doom9's guide. Initially I encoded with DivxPro. In that I had a problem with freezing frames in the Video.
Pricture froze when I tried to view it using Windows Media Player (and others) in the beginning of the avi and now and then
it between. It would remain frozen for 3-4 seconds and pick up again. I used QuarterPixel, GMC and Bidreictioanl Encoding. i did not use Pshycho Enhancements.

Next time I tried with just Regualr Divx5 not Pro. This time it seemed OK (Windows media player still froze up a little
in the beginning, but he Playa was fine. But now I had a problem with seeking. when I used the slider bar to move up and down the movie
I lose audio/video synch. This time i used Pshyco Enhancemenst (Normal)
Anyone have any suggestions. I personally am still loyal to Divx 3.11alpha. No doubt this is faster. But I knew 3.11,
here I am Lost :(

Both times Video Bitrate is : 1400
Audio is VBR mp3 with Low 64 and High 256
Filesize is bang on. Everyhting else is exactly as in Doom9's guide.

Any help will be appreciated

Ok I am testing the thing and this is what excatly happens. Its consistent with almost every player. When i seek using the slider. The video lags behind the audio. But then the video moves doubly fast to catchup and does so about 2-4 seconds later. after that everything is fine. So if i start off my movie and watch it without interruptions, it should be OK, but if i have to seek, everytime i will lose a couple or more seconds and it will catchup. Any ideas?

please read your CPU usage during movie playing.

May be CPU Usage over 100%

Maybe you switch-off QuarterPixel on encoding as this increases encoding speed and also drops CPU usage at playback significantly (as posted elswhere in this forum). Also for myself I'd not touch this PsychoVisual stuff. I didn't test this myself but it seems to give problems sometimes (again look around in this forum, there's heavy discussion going on).

I did some tests with DivX 5 Pro using GMC and B-frames but no QPixel and so far I'm really satisfied with the quality... but there are still some issues I think. For the moment I can not lay my hands on them I have to do much more testing.

Same problem here: audio off after seeking for some seconds, then video catches up again. Used DivX5 pro (GAIN), gmc off, q-pel off, b-frames on, MP3 CBR audio (so it's not a VBR problem).

Might be a b-frame problem?

Hi,

Had this problem myself with DivX 5.0 Pro with all goodies turned on, Psycho-babble at Normal.

Seems to help if you set your audio interleaving a bit smaller than normal and also set keyframes at every 120 frames rather than 240 (my normal setting).

Helps seek quickly and also prevents audio lag.
