I was just wondering if anyone else has any played around with Xvid and B&W interlaced source material. Any advice on Xvid/Gknot settings before I start the encode? It's a 60min video so I'm shooting for 1CD of course.
Thx in advance

This is going to sound anti-climatic, but I've always fel tDivX4 has been the best codec for black and white. It handles the darkness well.
Not that it really has to do with what you said, just sharing a thought.

I encoded a Tool video the other day that was super dark all the way through it. Xvid did a much better job in the shadow areas than Divx4 or 5. I tend to avoid Divx these days because I can't stand seeing the macroblocks within the shadows.
So I figure Xvid will certainly serve the purpose for a B&W source. Maybe I'm wrong but it's going to be my first choice to try;)

I felt taht those dark areas were one of the few things were DivX4s internal smoother worked for it rather than against, but to each one his own, guess it boils down to being about personal experiences, preferences and methods in the end.
