View Full Version : Mac -> PC GammaFilter?

All the movies and also images I have imported from a Mac in my PC are much too dark. There must be a special gamma-correction for it.
I have searched for it on some filter-websites, but i couldnīt find a filter to correct the gamma-curve. (I donīt mean hue, sat, contrast or luminance - just gamma)
The internal filter "levels" works similar. But the result doesnīt look so good.

Does anybody know, how I can solve this problem and what are the standard settings for it?

Why don't you adjust the gamma of your monitor instead?

a nice tip! :D :D :D

But should I say to everyone I copy my movie, calibrate the gamma-setting of your monitor???

I did a little bit of research on Google, and it seems to me that "gamma" is really pertaining to monitors only: luminance response vs. voltage applied. This implies that you should adjust the luminance of your source material. In other words, something like the "Curves" adjustment in Photoshop, except for VirtualDub.

Unfortunately I couldn't find anything like that; I personally needs such a filter myself for a different purpose.

Actually, I just found out that Premiere 6 has a "Gamma Correction" filter, which should do exactly what you want! But I haven't been able to get Premiere to read MPEG2 sources, either directly, with DVD2AVI + MPEG2DEC.DLL + AviSynth, or VFAPI. Perhaps using huffyuv would work...
