Would appreciate help or advice due to the problems I have been having while ripping DVD to

VCD. So far unable to get any programs to decode more than about 5 mins before they crash.
I have tried DvdX, DupDVD and Moviejack and they all behave the same I(program performed

illegal...) after about 6 mins.
I have put on a dual boot and get the same thing on Win2000 and Win(98).
Atapi layers have been installed (2.6).
Using Creative DVD RoM.
Any suggestions on what I can try next much appreciated.

I am using ATI 32meg Rage card, Athlon 850, 380mB memory, Via motheerboard.

I have taken virtually everything else out of the PC and put DVD rom on secondary master

Thanks in Advance

test your machine. use memtest-86 and/or prime95 torture test to check your hardware.
you're not oc-ing, are you?

Just an update..I think I am closer to getting to the bottom of the problem.

Having spent days trying to locate the problem in the end I reset my motherboard to opttimum default settings.

On the next attempt my machine actually reset rather than generating the various error messages previously.

To cut a long story it appears high cpu temp seems to have been the main factor.

I am now having improved success with dvdx 1.8 and moviejack 1.1 (at least not crashing in first 10 mins!)

Thanks for the help.
