View Full Version : multiple VOB IDs in the same PGC

Is the above possible? I guess so since that's what Warner does with most of their titles. The part on the 2nd layer has another VOB ID but is still part of the same PGC. How would I manually create such a situation? Normally creating a new PGC (at least in Scenarist) creates a new VOB ID but I specifically don't need the new PGC in this case.

First, in what software? Scenarist? And I’m not sure if I understand what do you mean by VOB ID and what is your goal. Please explain more.

Scenarist or Maestro, doesn't really matter.
Most Warner movies on dual layer discs have a smaller VOB "in the middle", right? So like vts_01_1-3 are 1gb, vts_01_4 is smaller and vts_01_5 is 1gb again. The smaller vob is located just before the layer switch. After the layer switch a new VOB ID starts.. but it's obviously still in the same PGC.
Why do I want that? To re-create the same ifo structure as the original movie.. I've sucessfully managed to get pc playback to work perfectly without having 2 VOB IDs but I don't know about standalones and can't test.. and it would be great if I could put that in my upcoming CCE & IfoEdit guide just in case

wouldnt the smaller vob be automatically created when you place the layer break and compile?

don't think so.. only Warner DVDs have that "feature".. plus I know for certain that most other discs don't have another VOB ID after the layer break.

I have created a dvd layout in Scenarist as shown in this screenshot. PGC1 has 3 chapters/cells at 00:02:00:00, 00:01:00:00, and 00:02:00:00. PGC2 has 2 chapters/cells at 00:03:00:00 and 00:04:00:00. When I compile the project, I get the ifo file that you see in this screenshot. The second PGC is off, and always seems to start at 00:00:00.15 every time I attempt this. Creating more PGCs results in each PGC having a first cell of 00:00:00.15 time. What am I doing wrong?

If I remember correctly, VOB IDs could refer to either a PG with 1 cell or 1 PG with many cells. Use Scenarist's "Define Layer Break." Here you will have already created a PGC with many PGs. Then indicate where the layer break is within the PGC. Example:
PGC10
PG1 PG2 | PG3 PG4 ...
(end of layer0 ->|<- layer1 breakpoint at beginning of PG3, aka VOB ID3)
Result:
End of layer0: PGC10 with VOB ID 1, 2
Beg of layer1: PGC10 with VOB ID 3, 4
