OK, this might be rather stupid, but how can I find out what kind of Codec was used to encode it? I have only installed DivX5 Pro Codec and so in my Player (Zoom Payer) I only can see that it is some kind of DivX media (cause it is using the DivX decoder filter).

So how can I find check this out?

Thank you.

Open the file with Nandub or Visual Dub. Select File Information from the File pull-down menu.

Hi!

Either I'm more stupid than I thought to be or you're not right or I misunderstand you (but you only wrote one sentence). In this dialog I can only find information which decompression codec will be used. Since I only have DivX5 Pro installed virtual- and nandub shows me ALWAYS DivX5 Pro. This is not the info I asked for.

I don't want to know which decompressor my system is using but which codec was used to create the file. Since every codec is not binary compatible this can't be a very difficult job.

Thank you anyway

You are right! I just tested it, and it shows the decompressor that will be used, not the compresser used to create it.:stupid:

The Terabit AVI info program might do what you want - I dimly remember using it ages ago, I don't have it installed atm. Download it anywhere, e.g. http://www.divx.com/products/product_list.php?typeid=7
