memory setting windows xp

A few days ago I read that when you have windows xp and atleast 512mb of memory you can improve performance by loading windows xp permanently in the memory (in the registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/SessionManager/MemoryManagement/DisablePagingExecutive and set value to 1 an reboot)
Will this increase encoding speed also?

I'm not sure if that registry key will disable the page file but you can do it in another way:
Right click on My computer>properties>advanced>performance-settings>advanced>virtual memory-change
Now there you can disable, or change the size of the page file.

It's sure is faster but i don't know how safe it is to run Xp without virtual memory.

Well I read your post and decided to give it a shot. I will post if anything goes wrong. I have 768mb of memory in my computer and I monitor it all the time. Before I turned it off I never used more the 30%. Now im using around 50-60% and it is running much faster. I will keep you posted.

Try the demo version of tweakxp. It will change these settings automatically, plus, it will make a backup in case the settings cause problems. Just check the box labeled ENABLE CORE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE.

I've got the same program. But if you enable core system performance you load the kernel into the memory, you don't disable the virtual memory. But it will also improove the system performance.
