have you seen their software archive? it's the number one ripoff page out there.. their referers are always in the top positions in my stats every month.. I tried to reason with them.. they once removed all the links, but then put it back up soon after that. Over time these kind of things got too annoying so I just settled for a referer check but I can't really prevent people from taking my guides.. making a legal case out of it for copyright infringement would simply not cut it.. the damange is way too little

Fill up an abuse complaint with there ISP ;)
With little luck the acount will be terminated and problem solved.

Also if they are being registered in any Search Engine Email them asking for the site listings to be removed.

And yes, you can fill up also a copyright infringement
The name Doom9 is strong enoght, and I am sure you can back it up with server log's.

actually.. I sent a complaint letter to both their ISP and the domain registrar a long time ago.. I never heard anything.. I think you need a lawyer to send a letter or you won't get anywhere.

Doom9 sueing for copywright infringement? Some people would find that ironic. :) The guy should at least quote his sources. Plagarism is one of the worst forms of dishonesty.

Problem is that if you don't persu your copyrigts then it's as if you forfit them.

The next guy will say - but it's also there, and so on.
From what I was reading, send the ISP a treat letter stating that if they will not take it down you will open a leagal suit over the matter.

And yes, by all means, get a lowyer and ask him for advice.
It's your material, and no matter how questionble the content, it's yours.


I will hate to see some one trying to copy the burning tutorials at my site. when I get a tutotial that I did not write I give the writter all the creadits he deserve and if some one will try to get my material I will turn the world upside down to make them stop.

doom9, why don't you put a copyright note under your guides? this way everybody could see it's not divxcrawler's (or whatever is their name) content.

this doesn't really help the traffic problem but it's good for your reputation and bad for theirs.

Hi,

The real problem with this is that they have posted a copyright notice on their page. If you don't have one on yours too, then they could claim YOU stole the guide!!

Don't really think this would happen, but you never know with our legal system.

You might consider talking to a copyright lawyer about what to do about this....or perhaps contact the FBI's copyright enforcement division. By law, the FBI is required to investigate any and all copyright violations reported to it.

Isn't that enough? putting a copyright notice on 300+ pages is quite a bit of work

1. It does not matter if you have a copy right notice on every thing that you write or not. It's still yours.
Teoretically I have a copy right over this post as I was the one to write it.
* Off course in cases like a post or an email you can't seu some one for quoting your post or somthing like this, but the original writting is yours.

2. you do however need to persu copy right infrigment in cases of blunt stealling. If you don't you might loose your "rights".
Same as you need to persu Tread Mark infrigments or you might loose your tread mark.

3. FBI will not help in this matter as the mentiond site is in Australia. But Australia is not less civilised then the US and Persuing your rights over there is the same.

4. Make a SSI Template for the site and put the Copy right notice in it. This way it will automatically show on all pages.

5. We are allready at '2002'. time to change your copy right notice :o

That's a realy great site there, but since that site infringes copyright there's a chance that it will go down anytime.

So everybody should make a backup copy of the whole site to help them. Even better, make several backup copies, just to make sure.

I'd advise to backup to /dev/nul but it somehow doesn't seem to work and I already had to go for extra backups several times.

Maybe others can help them, too.

just a followup.. after another 2 mails, the last one with a reminder that I had enough of it and would contact the authorities if there were no reply they finally complied.. all the guides are gone and so are the links to my software downloads.
