Have they corrected the resource leak? Because that's the main problem I see with the current 4.12. The rest of the program is ok for me.

Hi,
I tried to use but it crashes when importing an .ifo file or .vob.
Tried it on 2 PC's running Win98 and Win2000. Same thing.
Very annoying...

Hi!
I downloaded this version yesterday and today I let my computer encode in 2nd pass mode.
Opening .ifo or .vob file wasnīt a problem.
A nice feature is the automatic testing of the fastest IDCT after installing XMpeg.
I will report my experiences when my tests are done.

"A nice feature is the automatic testing of the fastest IDCT after installing XMpeg. "
My computer freezes and then xmpeg turns off all because of IDCT auto.

I tried 4.31a
Language 'UNKNOWN' can't select anything else
Does the IDICT test eveytime I open it, even tho I change nothing.
Does work and is a bit faster than before.
But i can't wait for 3 mins each time i start it, and
having half french half english text annoys me.
In the bin with it!

@sarahjh69
you just have to change the extensions of the language files to .xmpeg instead of .flask (in the folder \xmpeg\Lang\). Then you can choose languages again.
But I still have the problem, that I cannot open ifo's or multiple vobs, so it joins all vobs of a film. It just opens the one I have chosen.
Does anyone here know what to do?

If You use strait xmpeg4.31 there's no ifo parsing. Download and install 4.30 first, and upgrade to 4.31.I've encoded "Three Kings" last night with xmpeg4.31 - Divx5pro 2 pass and get nice results.

Hey, thank you, I didn't even know, that there was a version 4.30.
The last one I got was 4.2.

Sestrata-
Thank you so much for that tip! After waiting so long for the next version to come out, I was getting very frustrated with that minor detail. It seems this maybe should be posted on the news on the frontpage, because whoever downloads 4.31a straight from the news/downloads will definitely have this problem. Maybe the next release will solve this. Anyway, thanks!!!

I just open the first *.vob file after I ripped the film with Smartripper and Streaming Processing. Sometimes, I donīt rip the whole film. Only the wanted language audio and the film, no subtitles and no other languages. But I can test this with ripping the whole film and then opening the *.ifo file, if you want.
Is it possible, that your ripped vob files are corrupt?
My encoded result wasnīt bad quality with XMpeg 4.30a and DivX 5.0 with B-Frames on, but I have a strange violet colour that comes up all few seconds in the film...
Now I have downloaded the version 4.31a. Perhaps this strange behavior isnīt there with this version.

well i finished my first rip using the latest version of xmpeg 4.3.. it worked great.. although sitll has the problem of very low audio level.. so i am doing it again except with normalization on and increased the dynamic range compression even higher.. hopefully this will fix the low audio level problem..

To take care of low audio, I have XMPEG do a "direct stream copy", then use BeSweet with an auto gain adjustment. Then the sound level should be at the max still without clipping during the loud scenes. Usually, there's an adjustment of ~10dB, which equates to 10x as loud (but the human ear hears it as twice as loud). Sometimes it's even 15dB, which of course is 30x as loud. Sorry for the boring facts, that's just my 1c.
And for the "Dimension must be multiple of 4", make sure that the "height" and "width" properties of the postprocessing tab (Global Project Options) are evenly divisible by 4. Some systems even require divisibility by 16; the old ouput pad of XMPEG 4.2a would conform in that manner. Another 1c in advice.
That's my 2c, hope it helps! :-]
Oh, and in my experience, *.ifo parsing does not work unless you rip in File Mode in Smartripper. Make sure you have the DVD mism(on the XMPEG homepage under 4.31a, or already there if you installed 4.31 over a previous version), and then open the first .vob file. The rest should automatically be open.

Tried it, loved it!. I've been using 4.2a for over 5 months, and now 4.31a is even better.
Is working flawlesly on NTSC dvd's.
BTW, I always rip with DVDDecrypter and process the .ifo from the HD.

Just copy the file DVD.mism.Xmpeg from XMpeg4.2 folder into 4.31. This will add the ifo parsing again.

ok since my last postings ive ripped and encoded 2 dvds with the latest version of XMPEG.. 4.3a.. and both have come out great.. twice i had audio being too low.. so what i did was increased the dynamic range compression ALL THE WAY to max.. just make sure ur speakers are turned off.. or else.. heh.. the final product turned out great.. audio seems to be just at the perfect level for me when having drc all the way up.. i encoded Love & Basketball DVD and The Corrupter DVD.. both to divx 4.. great easy program.. i am encoding austin powers 2 using bicubic as we speak.. but my dial up isp is gone so i cant go online unless im at skool.. so ill post results later..

Well, after fixing the problem with non be able to open IFO files (lucky I still had a copy of Xmpeg 4.2a around), I did my first rip with Xmpeg 4.3, and it went well. I have to try it on Windows ME to see if it eats so much resources as the 4.2a.
BTW, I prefer using normalice for the audio, Dinamic range compresion distorts the original sound, making soft parts louder and the opposite, I prefer the original film, just how it is.
