I've block the gain program from accessing the internet using my firewall, but what about the registry keys? Removing all the ones adaware found stopped DivX from working, but I've read you can remove almost all of them without it effecting the encoder.
Which keys are safe to remove?
Thanks,

Look at my post in this thread, it tells you which key will stop the GAIN program from starting.

Or you could go with msconfig like doom9 said on the main page
Hope that helps.

i used msconfig to remove the program from startup, and on reboot after turning off the diagnostic mode (automatically came on upon making the change), divx 5 wouldn't work. didn't do any more tests to try to solve the problem since this was the last straw for me and i removed divx 5 (until it's refined/understood a bit more), but i suspect it checks to make sure it's been started at startup time. if anyone's gotten it to work through multiple restarts using msconfig i'd like to know though for the future.
