I seen someone over at the Divx.com forums that claim to have done it. Everwicked tried the procedure last night and it didn't work during playback though.

well... that's a fantastic news Nic. On the muxing end I could mux XVID as well as DIVX5 with AAC but with MP3 I'm getting warning errors from mp4creator.. but hell what's the point there are no players to handle AAC audio :( DVN's Playa does the video part quite fine but it can't handle audio in the mp4 file.

Try one of these:

Command line mp4player: http://www.psytel-research.co.yu/downloads/mp4player.zip

MPEG4IP includes a player:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpeg4ip/

GUI based mp4 players:

Philips http://www.mpeg-4player.com/products/player/index.asp

Envivio http://www.envivio.com/solutions/etv/

There are probably even more ...

u can put a VBR mp3 file in an MP4 by making the VBR mp3 with a wav header
muxing it with ur divx5 avi and using the divx5 codecs mp4 creator to make ur mp4 file from ur avi with the vbr mp3

plays fine in divx player 2a

works great!

I posted a short method to use the new DivxNetworks util to take an Xvid/MP3 AVI and convert it to an MPEG4/MP3 MP4 file. It plays just fine in Divx Player 2.0 alpha. You can find it in the Xvid section. Should work for Divx5 and 4 as well. :)
