Which codec do u (will) prefer?

well, as doom9 has said, u cannot say excatly which codec is better than the other one, it's up to u!

But it would be interesting me, what do u think about that.
So, I give u the choice between DivX3.11, DivX4, DivX5 and XviD (sorry about other codecs ;))

Right now DivX5 gives me the best results.. (very good results indeed)
but i'm keeping an eye on XviD

Well, size is not a matter to me as 700MB CD's only cost me 30p inc VAT, so I always go SVCD 4-pass. But if I had to choose a codec I'd go for XviD as it's been pretty good in my experiments ;)

i had a look at divx5 yesterday and did a rip using all the nice new features like b-frames and gmc and the speed went down to under 5 fps (old system ;), so right now I'm staying with Xvid, which gives me 15fps and looks nearly as good as divx5.
and i'm sure that the quality will still improve a lot in the future

since all my little test encoding chapters of 'ToyStory 2' and 'Lost in Space' seemed to me like Xvid was sharper and after I showed some friends my tests they also liked the Xvid encodes more, I'll go for Xvid,..

Hi,

I prefer DivX 5.0 Pro right now. Seems smoother, with a lot less macroblocks on surfaces like walls, sky, etc...big deal with me, I hate seeing them.

Also I love the b-frame support. Once Xvid supports this I will re-evaluate my choice...

But right now, I'm encoding with DivX 5.0 Pro!

Ogg = GPL + Free -> more development
