My pc is frozen or shuts down after 5 mins i started it, what happens?

Yes i own an old athlon 600 mhz on win xp but, it was very good but lately i can't use it anymore, every time i start it, i open one or two programs or simply get connected to the web and it stops and gets frozen or just shuts down, what could be the problem, i've changed several time tyhe ram memory and now i know it's not a ram matter, please tell me any suggestions, i must use it urgently......

Look my processor is a little old, 1 year approx and has a two fan system, as i can see the two fans work alright, nothing seems to be failing but it is frozen after 5 mins i start....

The pc can be functioning for several hours but only on a passive way, i mean i start it and let it alone and nothing happens but if i use any application for 5 minutes it is frozen or shuts down, on ie it always happens, on word too, i mean, only using programs it happens, the pc by itself can be on without problems so i deduce it's not a fan problem, what can it be????? Please help me i can't use it since february....

if its not the memory and cpu temperature seems in line (if you have a chipset fan/monitor check if that temperature is in line.. what id suggest is a clean os install.. if you have a second partition just install xp on there (i dont use xp but i know w2k is very friendly with multiple installs and makes boot menu and everything) once you have that up install some stuff on that (just a few apps ) and run them at the same time.. if it doesnt crash in conditions that would cause your other install to crash then stick with the new install.. install your favorite apps and kill the old one (when you sure there isnt anything left over you might need)

sometimes its just a bad driver or .dll or something remote which are very hard to isolate at times... (the crashing doesnt always occur right away so makes it hard to figure out what happened to get the problem started) .. besides.. .after a year a clean os install always speeds things up and gets rid of alotta crap you dont really use

I'm having trouble with my pc, freeze and shut down, it's not a ram matter and many people say it's a fan problem, well i installed mbprobe and my cpu temp on celsius raises since 29 until more than 40, is it correct or do i have to install another fan or another method to keep my cpu cold???
