Modified nandub ?

Well are there any modified version of Nandub out ? I mean i now tried almost every option of Nandub, tried all tricks to improve quality for 1 cd rips. I also tried lot of modified filters and stuff, but i am still gettin not the quality like the groups VITE or Dominion for example. So i thought a possible reason for that is, that they are using their own modified versions of nandub, because there are always a lot of people out (like nando himself modified VirtualDub) who are trying to improve programs give to them on their own and succeed. I saw something like that around from Koepi, but didn't try it yet.
Maybe there are a few guys of you out who know about that or who know how to improve almost perfect quality.

Koepi does have some hacks, but I doubt they are the final puzzle piece you seek. Just hearing you saying that you've tried "every trick" sets of my alarms.

There is NO secret magical bullet that will make any rip perfect. Period. What works for one encode can be crap for another. To get an encode I'm happy with I still have to do 2-3 re-encodes, note what looks good and what doesn't look good, draw conclusions upon this and make the appropriate adjustments in filters and settings.

No offense, the nandub hack you need is experience. Experience in knowing how to adapt your tool to the rip at hand.

somehow I'm sorry, but I fully agree to hanty. There is no "perfect setting" or "magical hack" around.
You have to tweak your settings, if you want to do a real perfect rip you need much time, several encoding sessions and something to edit an ecf or stats file with.
For most users GKnot will work like magic though (*caugh* and I really dislike GKnot, never thought I would advertise it ;) ...)

hmm i didnt meant the 'final puzzle piece' :rolleyes:
maybe i should call it 'the final touch' the little bit of extra quality which it needs to be a perfect rip. i mean, dont get me wrong. i already have very good quality, but it could be just a little bit more to look like divx releases from groups we all know. ;) i am changing setting when from dvd to dvd depending on what kind of movie it is. so i am just searching for more advanced techniques to learn.

It's the same thing. There is no "final touch" or secret technique that will suddenly make your 3 hour 1 CD Rips get DVD quality.

Well hehe i dont want to ban 3hours on just one single cd. the dvd is approx. 1:30. i dont want dvd quality, my rips are good. but other groups have a little bit more, even no dvd quality.

My Nandub days have long been gone, but perhaps you care to hear my 2 cts, too?

It's a bit tough to just use trial and error and encode over and over again. Maybe watching the debugview output while encoding helps you to detect a problem. For example, you could suddenly realize 'these dark scenes have VERY low DRFs - have I overdone the luminance correction at the cost of the bright scenes?'. Or 'why does the gauge empty that suddenly - is my payback-delay too strict?'

Whatever, it's a hard business. And even if you have a 'perfect' encoding, there still is no getting around some problems (like blockiness in areas with uniformous colours, like some shots of the sky or a desert), these are the limitations of the codec itself.
