if xvid is as good as everyone is saying it is why isnt the majority of the encoding done with it? i have never seen an xvid rip, why dont more people use it as opposed to divx 3,4,5, sbc?

because most of the people are afraid, because xvid is still in heavy development... (in fact divx 4.12 was also, but they didnt tell us so clear, as xvid does...)

I have to say even though Xvid is in "development" it's perfectly stable and predictable enough for me to use full time now:) Those guys are doing great work...the daily builds are evidence.

I've swapped over to xvid since 1-18-2002 build, and it is becoming better every single build. I was using xvid encoding with divx filter for playback; However, since nic's DSfilter came into light, I have switched totally over to it now. The codec is not only faster but it also yields better quality. Xvid definitely has a bright future once it is done. Once a while you will run into minor issues with newer build for quality/speed improvements; Nevertheless, the fix will be out within 24hrs or less, which is more of a reason to use xvid. The xvid developers are great ( they are the stars in my book ). I always looking forward to every monday for new improvements. If you don't like what you see in the new build, then you simple wait till the next one :D

even if its in development im one of the greatest fans of it !! the last 15 dvds were "backuped" using xvid, and its really amazing to see, how the quality is going better and better the newer the xvid version is :)
