Artifacts... BIG ONES everywhere...

Hey... Just encoded a divx5 pro chapter from the original DVD source.

I followed doom9's guide... ticked the boxes he said to... and what not...

ended up with the attached image...

The Movie stutters video wise, has these artifacts EVERYWHERE... its unwatchable and you could hardly call it an improvement over divx4 or even 3.

Any ideas on how to fix this or why it is happening

yea this was what i was thinkign.. because i got the *patched* version of divx 5 pro.. from cdrsoft.cc.. and over there people are complaining about the same problem.. but look at the thread above.. i everyone having this problem cant possibly have the same *patched* codec as everyone else.. im gonna try the suggestions in that thread and see if i get the same problem..

I had the same artifacts... until I turned of psychovisual enhancements. Try turning it off!

From the DivX 5.0 readme.txt :

but i dont use PSY and i get major artifactiong.. what the heck is going on?

I tried the same thing twice... a simple encoding process I've been doing the same for about 4 months or more. Anyway, all I did differently was to open the AVS from GKnot in VDub and manually configure it for Divx5. First try, I turned on all the new toys that looked useful (QPel, GMC, B-frames). Turned out like crap, not too unlike the screenshot you see up there.

So I tried it again, turning off all the new toys. (CLI: -b21 611 -key 240 -log "c:\divx.log" -mv "c:\mvinfo.bin" -dr 12,2,2000,10,20 -sc 50 -pq 5 ). And guess what? It sill came out looking hideous. I picked one of the frames that best illustrates this. So, any ideas?http://131.193.105.154/screenshot.jpg

Yes - stop using the cracked Pro Codec and download the Adware-Version instead :)

Hi, i too had some problems just like NSanity described, but i found out it was the psychovisual enhancements like decibel said.
Try also to turn off Q pixel, doom9 says in the news section that it's giving some people trouble.

I would agree that what you are seeing is because you are using the patched version of the codec. This is the exact bug created when it is hacked :) I know this because we planned this as part of the crack mechanism. I'm sure someone will do a better hack soon!

As I started this above thread I just wanted to add that I did not use any patched version - I used the ad-version of the codec from divx.com.

Probably it was the fault of the PSY setting in my case. As the divx5 codec crashes while capturing from tv, I uninstalled it and use 4.12 again until a more stable divx5 is released.

(btw. I think I can see a clear difference between the shitty frames that appeared in my case, and the other kind of error -almost like a "solarized" picture- that obviously appears in the patched version)

Hehe, good thinking ahead Junto. I actually find it funny that people would put bugs in their soft to prevent it from being cracked :)

Actually, my results were done with the ad aware version installed. My next trick will be to try standard, but I can't imagine what that would fix.
