VirtualDub + vfapi + Divx 5 = crash ?

I have tried almost everything from 1-pass, 1-pass quality based, 2 pass etc..like I used to be able to do with 4.12, using a vfapi-converted .d2v project. 99% of the time Vdub crashes with DivX 5.0

Somebody say it is because of vfapi, but I have tried the same with "vidomi", just to test, and it crashes there too. I know vidomi is probably not ready for DivX 5.0, and not everybodys favorite app, but the same happens here. It crashes almost immediately.

I have Windows XP, athlon XP 1700+, abit kr7a-raid, 512 mb ddr etc..hever had any problems with 4.12.

Anybody else experiencing this ?

Ps. The few times it actually have worked, the output have became completely garbled and once in a while, ( NEVER with 2-pass ) it comes out like it is supposed to.

Do you use the MP4 output option? If yes DO NOT. This crashes virtual Dub...


Else work with avisynth instead of vfapi. Vfapi however, worked fine for me.

I have the same problem, "invalid log file" and can't even get a first pass working right in vdub. Since there are some people reporting this now It would appear to be a bug or oversight on some part.

I'm on Win98, 256 ram, 866Mhz.

We talked about this in the channel, and Doom9 himself said it was BS. Encoding at the same time as his ads were shut down with a combination of msconfig and ZA/tpf.

just encoded peral Harbor. 640x272, 1000 kbps, 2 pass. used dvd2avi -> vfapi -> vdub 1.4.8.

absolutely no problem. resulting 1.4 GB avi file was flawless. luv it.

dunno if this is related or not, but once in a while
i get the very same problem with DivX4.12 when I try
to run a compressability check using GKnot: Vdub crashes
immediately.... so i go the DIY (non-GKnot) route
using vfapi->vdub and it works beautifully.

not that that helps you, but i'd not seen mention of
a similar problem before now... :-)

I'm using an 'official' divx5 release, and disabled the ad program in msconfig.

I used to encode movies just fine in 3.11 but of course files were much larger. Now I encode in divx5 and I can't get 20 or 30 minutes through one without a crash, regardless of player, even though these are not freezes frames. I can load them into any editor and advance through the file frame by frame just fine. It's only in playback that it crashes, and I think it's an overlay problem.
