View Full Version : I want my DivX3.11-filter back!

Ok, thanks a lot DXN! They finally removed to question about whether I want to use their filter for 3.11-files and decided for me that I want to. Well, guess what? I DON'T!
Apparently there is a problem with DivXG400 and DXN:s DS-filter, which leads to a problem that DivXG400 is unable to change the fps from 23.975->25. So if I use the DXN-filter with NTSC-rips on my Matrox G550-card I get jerky playback.
But even so, I _really_ hate when programs take away my right to decide what I want to do with _my_ computer, it is also a matter of principle...
Can anyone please help me with restoring the 3.11-filter? No, just reinstalling 3.11 doesn't work. I tried messing around in the registry but with no success...
I'd really appreciate any help.
I don't have the answer to you, sorry :(
I even don't use divx3 or divx4/5, i use xvid.
But i must express here my reprovation of the removal of the divx4/5 playing divx3 content option.
I agree 100% with mwillberg, they should't have done that.
When xvid post processing filter came up, they didn't make him default for playing divx content. If one wants to keep the divx filter, he can do that.

Yeah, that's just dumb. I like the new codec, I think it has potential, but taking away my 3.11 and having to install their useless POS player is getting on my nerves.

@mwillberg
I'm also pretty frustrated they would do something like this automatically. No my Div3 and 4 clips look like garbage using the newer filter.
have you tried reinsyalling the Divx 3 codec? I wonder if this would relink the Div3 filter properly...

This is really weird - I had always had the Divx4 codec configured for playback of all Divx files (I think the playback filter is a little nicer than the Divxd 3.11 playback).
Since I installed Divx5, the 3.11 is suddenly back again and there is no way to get the divx5 filter to play 3.11 files!
Can we just switch, so you would get your 3.11 back and I could play 3.11 with 5 ????

How is that? It looks like the same filter to me with the same options. Did I miss something here?

Anyone has a solution for this? I also want to playback DivX3-Content with the DivX3-DS-Filter...

DivXG400 FPS conversion works here with the DivX5 DS-Filter, if set to "convert 23.976 to 25 fps". What does not work is "autoplay near to 24 fps at 25 fps"...maybe give it a try.
BTW: Reinstalling DivX3.11alpha didn't help here (WinXP).

reinstalling 3.11 doesnt work on win98 as well
maybe someone should write a tool to play divx3 with divx3 ??
hi Jasmin, glad to see that you are still here

it's a pain, but you could always write your own filter file and use zoomplayer. worked for me, because i couldn't find the registry keys that divx5 messes with. :(

well, i like sasami...........
in XP I think that 9X too
Type in comand
>regsvr32 /u divxdec.ax
This defefinitive solve the problem but when you play a divx4-5
there is no filter to configure but for me the video play anyway.

good!
and then you could always type regsvr32 divxdec.ax ....
or better write a bat file to do that
just one click to change..........
This can work: install nimo and then uninstall it and then install 3.11.
I have never could use divxg400 with fps conversion. I have Asus TNT2 ultra. I use divxg400 for subtitles and i think it is the best way.
Can i learn more about divx filters?

I didn't find the reg-keys describing which filter plays what content either...anyone who knows please help, I don't wanna unregister divxdec.ax every time!

what is nimo? Did it work with installing and uninstalling it?

Hi altogether,
nimo ist just a filters and codec collection. You find that at divx-digest.com. Anyway I wonder that that should help in any way...
I installed that DivX5 yesterday as I was away on Monday. It also registered itself for Div3 playback. I wonder, if anyone has tried just to register the DivX3.11 filter again. I cannot do that from here but I'll try this evening when I'm home. Must be something like regsvr32 divx_c32.ax. Well, I cannot remember the filename exactly.
If this doesn't help I'd try to figure out which registry settings are influenced by DivX5. Usually the DivX4.x left some files in your temp-directory including the INF-Installer. Otherwise there are some tools form sysinternals.com where you can watch what happens to the registry and even log that. But that get's pretty nasty now.
I try to find out this evening. Any other suggestions?
CU,

Nimo is code pack with almoust all codec and filters. I couldnt reinstall or uninstall DivX3.11 but i installed nimo also with this DivX3.11 (and every codec I have) and then uninstalled so then i havent any codec in my computer. Then my windows is clean and I can reinstall DivX codecs.
I have been problem with some codec because I cant uninstall them but this can work.

Well, as reinstalling DivX3.11 doesn't help, I doubt this will work and I don't want to experiment with any packs now...or can anyone comfirm this works? If yes, I'd like to narrow it down to the important steps to achieve the task at hand (reactivating DivX3DSFilter)...

I tried registering DivX_c32.ax without success...reinstalling didn't work...and I didn't find some hints in the registry (searching for Divxdec.ax, divx_c32.ax, div3, div4 and stuff)...I only found things that didn't help me (with very restricted reg-knowledge).

Hi,
still at work. I just installed DivX3.11 in my Windows NT 4 here (running inside VMware). Then I installed DivX5 over it and I also didn't find any hints, which filter is used for which FOURCC, except...
If you look for 'divx' in the registry you find two CLASSID's with something like InProcServer underneath. There are some binary values obviously containing some FOURCCs. Anyway I read somewhere at divx.com in the forum that people who had DivX4.12 registered for DivX3.x playback get DivX 3.11 DS filter playback after installing DivX 5 and also the other way round. I cannot confirm this here (I don't have any videos at work).
I wonder if anyone has tried to uninstall all DivX codecs and reinstall only DivX 3.11 and DivX 5? If anyone could try this that'll be really nice. Please post your results here. I still have to stay here for some time.

Unless I read something wrong. Doom9 stated a codec only installer should be out soon that would address this issue. The statement was on the front page.
I found something in the registry:
Look for the string "DivXDeuX".
It's in ActiveMovie- and Avifile stuff.
I don't know exactly, but i think the DivX 5 filter is installing itself as a standard filter, that pretends to read everything. If it encounters a file it don't know about, it gives the file to the other installed handlers.
Inside that you will find something like "Filterdata". There you will find the 'div3' and 'div4' codes...
hmmmm... i think this is it, but how to remove?

after playing a lot with RegMon and monitoring, what DivX4.12 (play all), DivX4.12 (play only DivX4) and DivX5 do to the registry I am more confused than before :-)
I will follow your hint and look for DivXDeux now...

That seems to be it...I will try replacing div3 DIV3 div4 and DIV4 with something unused like ABCD or whatever...
Chibi Jasmin

Actually I searched for "DivX Decoder Filter" and every time "Filter Data" occured, I replaced div3, DIV3, div4 and DIV4 with ABCD in the FilterData.
Now GraphEdit really shows ABCD instead of div3 etc. in the input pins and Div3/4 actually plays with the 3.11 DS-Filter!
I will try to sum this up, which keys were used etc. and post it more detailed!

Thanks a lot for the tip, that really did fix the jerky playback issue...

Great, can't wait! I was actually a little more careful when playing with my registry, nice that some of you are brave... :)

I tried this before ( exactly yesterday evening ) but this remains only till the next reboot! After that the divxdec.ax has raided the registry again
The strange thing is, the replaced FourCCs are still there, but the filter plays divx3 content, thereby pushing the divx3 filter out of business.
There is something very fishy goin' on...

You have to replace all 6 FilterData entries in the registry, and then overwriting works, too...
More details in a new thread here in the forum!

...that people who had DivX4.12 registered for DivX3.x playback get DivX 3.11 DS filter playback after installing DivX 5 and also the other way round. That is true, it's what happened in my case...
Then I uninstalled Divx 5, reinstalled 4.12 and chose "play back Divx3 content" - but still divx3 is played with the divx3.11 filter...
But that's normal because once 3.11 was installed before 4.12, 4.12 will never take over. Only when 4.12 is installed before 3.11, the "playback all" setting will work.
Maybe this is a useful hint for registry-experts? I can't make any sense of it...
However, as I'm not going to re-install Divx5 until it's out in a stable and fully working release, I actually don't care.
