In Doom's latest guide http://www.doom9.org/mpg/cce-advanced.htm there is a section where you enter chapter points via corresponding frames found with ChapterXtractor. Why is this step necessary when you do the same thing once re-authoring? I have been doing the latter w/ ChapterXtractor for a while now based on time in Maestro and it has worked out quite well. Just wondering.
By the way, a big thanks to Doom9 for all the work he put into the site today. Adding the robshot and maestro guide along with the divX 5.0 guide. The man is dedicated, thanks Doom9.

well.. the main reason is to keep the chapter points at the exact same frame as in the original stream. If you don't mind being a couple of frames off then you don't have to set them in CCE.

Hi there,
I presume when we merge the chapters with CCE on a force film 23.xxx fps then we choose 23.xxx fps in the ChapterXtractor for use with CCE (ecl file) and then once we load maestro we would choose 29.xxx fps to create the chapterxtractor txt file because of course we would have done the pulldown.exe prior to loading DVD Maestro
Can anyone confirm if I am on the right lines?

I dont have a clue of DVD-authoring yet, but as far as I know it is totally irrelevant if you choose 23.976 or 29.97, because it is both the same (at least with respect to the movie length, since chapters work with timecodes)... It is only important when you use a chapter-format that takes the number of frames into account...
And I think that if you set the chapters in CCE, you dont have to set them in maestro anymore?!?!?!
P.S.:
I found this:
"My understanding is that you need to tell CCE where the chapters are so it will put an I-frame at that location. Random seeking can only re-enter the video stream at an I-Frame as this is the only type that does not rely on other frames for information. If you dont do this what I have seen happen is the video stutter for a few hundred milliseconds while it gets its bearings."

when encoding, you need to specify the I frames in the native (FILM) framerate, when authoring, you need to specify the I frames in the output (NTSC) framerate.

setting the chapters in CCE ONLY makes sure there is an I frame on that exact frame, it doesnt put a flag into the stream telling the authoring program to 'insert a chapter here'.
