hello.
ok, i did some small testing (used utena tv opening (anime) for source)
1. deinterlacing/ivtc dont really work well for anime. period.
2. compression. cut a part of opening and encoded it:
a) nandub with drf2 cap = 5191k
b) divx5 quality based @100%, with b-frames: 4449k
c) divx5 quality based @100%, no b-frames: 5796k????
d) divx5 quality based @100%, no b,gmc,qp: 5644k :/
both codecs look equally bad at drf2, divx5 has a bit more correct picture in some cases.
second torture clip: lain ep13 before opening (unstable noisy picture, 9to17 mbit at 720x resolution, 33sec)
divx3 52mb
divx5+b 44mb
divx5-b 59mb
third clip: lo-mo stuff, slow pannings, etc.
divx3 4712k
divx5+b 3454k
divx5-b 4816k
divx5-all 5265k
so judge yourself. i aint commenting that. atm my point is "wtf am i doing wrong" :/ but it looks like we may have up to 38% increase in compression of lo-mo anime content. that is not that bad. another case is i cant see any improvement with b-frames disabled.
but it looks ok, it plays correctly, wtf do you need more?
i wont say "its better than divx311" until you give me nandub-like app to process stuff anyway :-E and a bag of money too =)
conclusion: I'm evil today!
