DIVX5 MPEG-4 settings, explanation?

Does anyone know what each of the 3 MPEG-4 settings do in DIVX5? Quality improvements, filesize reductions, etc? The settings I am referring to are "Use Quarter Pixel", "Use GMC", "Use Bidirectional Predction". I already know Bi-Pred is a good thing, but the other two seem to do weird things to the quality (I turned them both on and got bad blocks all over the place, plus a few frames were skipped in playback)

Are you sure the quarter pixel and gmc were producing bad frames? Was the psychovisual enhancement also turned on? I think that screws it up, especially at "normal" setting.

I have only had time for one encode where I used all of the new settings, including normal psy and I got a lot of "shitframes".
