So does it fix the problems that divx 4 had?

More specifically, is the output still more blurred than divx3, and also does it still only sample color from 1 out of 4 pixels, rather than taking an average of the colors.

At first glance I still see it being softer than Divx3 and Xvid. This is only my first test though on a 20 minute clip using neutral bicubic.

The real issue is size predictability though!! The files appear to be much smaller but it's totally useless unless you can predict the size. Or am I missing something very important here??

EDIT- The macroblock issues seem to be better in dark scenes though.

Now that does sound good. I write this as i download via a lovely 46,667bps :) Has the new version of VirtualDub anything to do with DivX5??

Vdub 1.4.9 doesn't appear to be related to Divx5. I used 1.4.8 on my first encode.

Anyone wanna do some tests on filesizes? Say attempt to get a 100MB file? Using various bitrates in DiVX5 it may help to find out what is the best setting to get close to the filesize you want.
