heh, the new divx 5 codec is out, and I'm playing with it now. Turning on the MP4 options, such as b-frames really kills my framerate. On my dual XP1800, I only get 16fps at 704x368. Without b-frames, the fps is about 50! I sure hope there is a decent quality increase with this option enabled.

hey!
Ok i have problems :)
With the Default settings I get 40% of the speed I was getting with DivX4....I'm having a slow P2 450...have they totally removed every optimazation for this processor or am I doing something wrong?
And please don't tell me to buy a new processor...that joke is old! And in fact I'm getting a new one in a couple of weeks!

getting about 15fps @ 640x272 on my PIV 1,7@1,866mhz (I'm trying out quality based 50%) with all mpeg-4 opions enabled.. donno what all do but this is just a first test encode soo... :)
With my TB 1200 i get about 10-13 Frames with B-Frames, but only also 12-14 Frames without B-Frames. (both @ 640x352). Not bad, but when reading the facts on the divx.com Page, i have expected more.
what i doubt to be good settings (after one night of testing)
- b-frames: yes (a must-have, decreases needed space)
- MV-File: yes (speeds up 2nd pass)
- GMC: yes
- Quarter Pixel:no
- psy: light (normal results in ugly frames)

FH2, same here, no amazing speeds here, just much the same as divx3&4, in 1 and 2 pass, not really that amazed at the quality either atm, have to test it further tho.

I also find the second pass is a few fps faster than the first pass, something I couldn't see when encoding with Divx4.
And yes, I also had a lot of ugly frames with "normal" psy.
