How is it for anime/cartoons

I would just like to know how Xvid compares to divx when compressing cartoons/animes? Does it have the same problem with high contrast areas?

If I am not mistaken it does a bit better because of the Lumanence compression. It would do even better with post processing. The Divx.ax really does not like the latest compile. The ones on Nic's page have worked quite well with the Divx.ax with post processing though.

I have been using it quite alot recently as I am playing around with the idea of a site for trade and exchange of Anime as well as general TV and cartoons. Everybody should see Sealab 2021. After a hard day at class or coding it helps to bust a gut. If you loved Space Ghost Coast To Coast you will love Sealab 2021.

Its getting pretty good for anime. Tho in low motion, there is still a lot of grain. I have also notcied that in darker scenes, there are horizontal lines in the picture. (If uwant I can capture a frame with ). DivX 4 and 5 does not have this problem, and does better at low motion, but at a cost of sharperness of course :)

u can try my postprocessing build, it has an adaptive filter, and i think it could do good to anime, i'd really like feedback if u try it.

I tried the filter above and it has a promising future, but it blured the picture too much. It didn't smooth the small marcoblocks on the outlinings of the anime/cartoon. It looks more like a 3x3 or 5x5 blur, instead of smoothing just egdes. I will keep trying new versions though ;), but for now, is there a way to use the divx4 decoder and its postprocessing?

it doesn't have deblocking yet (i'm working on it). can u post a link to picture with the filter applied? (the best setting u can get), plus details of the settings? i already have an improved version of the deringing filter, will probably release a new build soon.

yes, u can use divx4 filter, u'll need avic.zip (if the file is already encoded in xvid), it's used to change the fourCC code of an avi file. if u're encoding new clips, u have a pull down option while encoding with xvid, to selest fourCC of xvid or divx. if u choose divx, it will play using divx filters.

regarding anime, if someone can post a link to a short (few seconds) high quality anime video that's expected to get filtered, i can try and build a filter that will tackle these kind of videos.
also, if u know a virtualdub filter that does does a good job by your standards, let me know what is it, and what're your preffered settings while using it
