CCE crashes on WinXP. XP issue?

hi,

i ran into trouble with CCE (WinXP, AMD Athlon).

it's a pity but it won't work with the proxyon/off.reg files.
does the avifile.reg make the same entries like "installing handle" in AuxSetup?
i'm sure i haven't forgotten anything (according to the guide) but still, upon halfways loading the i.e. "server.avi" CCE would crash.

the frameserver says 6 NON-A/V-REQUESTS, nothing else. could that be an XP issue? i'm testing all this with ROMEO&JULIET, 16:9, PAL.
could it possibly be that the resizing filter in virtualdub causes this if differently adjusted?

Not sure how you're frameserving so I won't be much help there. I can tell you that CCE runs fine in XP as I use it in XP all the time. I know if you frameserve with AVIsynth and don't include the "ResampleAudio(44100)" line in the script (even though there isn't any audio), it will crash CCE.

And without Link2, you can't even use CCE 2.6x with frameserved files. It accepts AVI's ONLY.

Make sure you only have one . in your filename. If you try to frameserve my.movie.avi it will crash. Rename to mymovie.avi and it works. At least for me. I don't know why.
Also I ran into trouble with Virtualdub 1.4.10 and i'm using 1.4.9 instead.

If you're using AMD running CCE via apcompat.exe (as NT4 sp5) might do the trick. The program is on the w2k cd and perhaps on the xp cd as well.

i have two machines both amd both running xp one will run cce the other crashes, i think cce is finiky with certain hardware

It is. Nothing below PIII/Athlon will run it.

If your doing the exact same thing on both computers, and they're both athlons or above, it's kinda strange I agree.

But it's my experience that theres alway's some little "insignificant" thing that differs in the setups. Are you using the same script, version of avisynth, mpeg2dec? Do you have the same CODECs installed? Same movie? What if you only use the built-in "version" video in avisynth as input to cce? I'd probably need more info to help you.

it crazy, its the same everything !!it works now, what i did was copy the cce folder off the working machine and pasted in the non working machine ! it now works beautifuly !!!

Well, there you go ... a well defined problem coupled with well defined solution. Everything is as it should.

Well, by me it works not, even not in Win 98SE.
After putting resample command in AVS script CCE 2.50 accepted file, but when start encoding it crashes, in 98, in XP too.
I succeded only with VFApi coverter, but AVISynth should work faster.

Maybe version of AVIynth is important ?
Can somebody give here AVS script and version number ?

I notice no-one here has (seemingly) even considered the issue of RAM. Cinemacraft is EXTREMELY RAM-hungry and if any of you are using non-ideal RAM configurations (i.e. 3sticks instead of two, or mixing DDR2100 with DDR2700, for example), then this may well account, at least partially, for the instabilities experienced on certain machines, which seem to be absent on others.

Overclocking, too, would be particularly obvious with such a demanding application, since the overclocking often de-stabilises the CPU. Of course, we all know that overclocking is most tempting where CPU-intensive applications are being used...and that's EXACTLY what Video-encoding is!!

...just a thought.
