DV footage to SVCD: post your setting here

As you can see the most hard to convert to SVCD format is the
DV footage recorded with home quality DV Cam.

Video is interlaced and not as stable as Hollywood cinema, so
the encoder has to do a lot of work to reduce high DV bitrate
into the more modest 2600 of a SVCD.

If you won't tune setting in your DVD2SVCD the resultat is
orrible to see.

After many retry I have found a decent setting; here is mine:

- Encoder TMPG - CBR - High quality - Bottom field first
- mb1 interlaced DV matrices
- bitrate max 2522 AVG 2400 (seems that tmpg takes avg setting for CBR
I was expecting that it use the maximum setting someone knows why?)
- Frameserver Bilinear resize - temporal smooter
- Audio 44.1 128Kbit

I have had pretty decent results with:
CCE encoder
5 pass
smart deinterlaced
Video max: 2900 min:300
video max average: 2310
audio: 128
other CCE settings: dvd2svcd defaults

Hope this is helpful. TMpeg has seemed too grainy/blocky for me in the past and it takes WAY to long.

Yes but 2900 bps is out of SVCD standard. My player won't play
it

I run my Edited Home DV Footage straight through a firewire and into a standalone E20 Panasonic DVD recorder. Out pops a chapterised DVDR with all my edited Home DV footage with no loss of quality whatsoever! Its easy when you got the Cash!!!! ;))

I knew, maybe a day I'll buy a DVDrecorder, but I wait till
price goes down to a more rasonable price
