View Full Version : A question concerning resolutions...

I'm going to be compiling a single AVI using clips from two different sources. The first AVI is encoded at 640x480 and the second is 512x384. Do I need to re-encode the first one to 512x384 res in order to have them match cleanly? Or will it not matter since they're both the same ratio? Keep in mind that I don't have the original sources, only the AVI's, and I'll be doing the final compiling with Adovbe Premiere 6. And if I do need to re-encode the 640x480 AVI, what would I use to do that?
Thanks in advance,

yes, to merge two differents avis, they must have the exact same resolution and must be encoded with the same codec.
so you really have to reencode the first one
you could use virtual dub to for example.

Thanks for clearing that up, but when I apply the resizing filter, I am forced to encode it in full processing mode, which results in a huge file. How do I get it back to a normal file size without losing quality?

if you reduce 640 to 512 you should get less size...
let me guess, you didnt set a compressor for the movie?
while in direct stream copy you just used the original compression?
a way to override the different resolutions is to apply black borders at the smaller movies, if you like it....
you could also create a project in premiere then save as movie, premiere will do the resizing.
but better to use Vdub,
still better with Vdub+avisynt.
