Min Quality vs. Min Bitrate

Both of them influence the overall quality of the movie. However, if one sets a min quality value, does min bitrate then become unecessary?

Problem with end Credits

My End credits take up a bunch of space. However, I can't use the "end credits" option in Nandub because I have an episode preview right AFTER the credits. Is there a way around this, or am I just screwed?

Encoding short segments.

Even when I set the Start and End offset for the file, when I hit "Two passes" Nandub starts to encode from the beginning. Is there a way around this, manually generating the stats file perhaps? If so, how would I do that, "No AVI output" and 100% freeze value for the Guage?

1) did you read guide and or noe? it's all in there. min quality should never be used anyways as it screws with the file size prediction..

2) do it as gknot does.. encode the credits separately.. and the part after them, too. Then join manually.. there's no automatic way.

3) you gotta have the stats file for the whole movie or your results will differ a lot from what you get when you encode the whole movie.

Yeah. I read the guides. Min Quality forces the codec to use lower compression ratio, while Min bitrate is to "prevent problems with ultra-low bitrates" I wassimply wondering if the "ultra-low bitrate" problems have anything to do with quality, and can therefore be fixed with the "min quality" option. Thank you for your advice though.

I think I can help you with the credits part but you'll have to use GKnot to do it though. After the first pass, open the stats file and the graph (do whatever else you're going to do like adjust keyframes or Motion Correction, etc.)and then hit Calculate. Then in the Stats File Editor Tab, over on the left is the Selection area. Scroll the the beginning of the end credits and hit the [, and then to the last frame of the end credits and hit ] . Then just to the right of that area is Weight. Adjust the percentage from the default 120% to the percentage of the full bit rate you want to give the end credits (12-20%?), and then hit Push. You'll see how the graph adjusts itself. Then Save (don't Calculate again) and that should do it.

All right, I read through both the Nandub guide, and BOTH versions of the G-Knot guide. I have a few follow up questions.

Is G-know simply a wrapper for Nandub, in that case can I save my modified Stats file and then continue to encode it in Nandub? In which case are there certain settings I should disable in G-knot, as well as certain ones I should not enable in Nandub to prevent the two from conflicting?

Yep-GKnot is a front end for Nandub helping us lazy bastards to make good movies without a lot of work. But it's tweakable enough though. Ordinarily, to use it in Nandub, you load the ECF file, the modified stats file. and put in the bit rate (from the modified stats file-max bit rate only), and then Save .avi. As for what settings you can safely over ride in Nandub and not screw anything up, I have no idea (maybe all of them).
