I have an Region 1 drive, and I want to play a Region 2 DVD. Can I use DVD Decrypter to rip and decode the data off the Region 2 disc, then play it from my hard drive?

Thanks!

I'm not sure, why don't you try and pot the results? With DVDDecrypter and Smartripper.

Sorry but no. Its impossible to rip a disc from the 'wrong' region using ASPI. Why dont you head on over to www.firmware.fr.st and see if they have a region free firmware update for your drive.

They do!!! :)

I have a Dell OEM'd Samsung SD-616.
Can anyone help me patch it?

Thanks!

What did you get in the file you downloaded?
probably an exe (the flash program) and some other file (the firmware).
Create a dos boot disc, and extract the downloaded file onto it. insert it in A: and reboot your machine. there will probably be an install.bat, update.bat etc file on the disc, run it and watch your drive's led flash away as it becomes RPC-1 :)

Would it be a good idea to disconnect my CD-RW? Here's my IDE config:

Primary Onboard Controller:
Master: HD1 - IBM 80GB
Slave: HD2 - WD 120GB

Secondary Onboard Controller:
Master: TDK VeloCD 16x10x40 (Its manual says it must be secondary master)
Slave: Samsung SD-616 (Dell OEM) A firmware is available for this drive from Dell, so if the flash messes or the drive won't work, I can flash it to the Dell firmware (region-locked)...right?

Here's what I got it the zip file:
Autoexec.bat (more details on this later)
COMMAND.COM
Drvspace.bin
Flash.exe
IO.SYS
MSDOS.SYS
sam_616.bin

Autoexec.bat only has one line:
flash sam_616.bin

Once this works, all I have to do is decide to pay $50 to order the DVD from Amazon.co.uk...unless you know a place where I can get it cheaper.

Thank you so much for all your help.

I just realized that I didn't say what DVD I was talking about buying. Never mind; forget it.

Just make sure you have the correct firmware, be it OEM or not. Different version of firmware (as standard with the drive) sometimes require different version updates. Im not saying this will be the case with your drive, but you can never be too careful!
Dont worry about disconnecting the other drive. Once you boot from that floppy disc, you will more than likely be presented with some sort of menu from which you choose the device you want to flash. Either that, or it will automatically select your dvdrom an update it.

Good Luck :D

Luck...that sounds discouraging.

I'm becoming afraid...maybe I should just wait for Futurama to come out over here in the States.

I don't want to permanently screw up my drive(s).

Well, I didn't wait. I patched it. And to be safe, I disconnected my CD-RW.

Output of the flasher:

SAMSUNG FLASHER UTILITY
<useless info>

[<some hex coding>] SAMSUNG SD-616 bp06 DETECTED SECONDARY MASTER
