Hi ive just ripped a DVD and the final movie files are split in two and they are both about 723MB. Is there a way of making the movie file smaller??? its an Mpeg file! In the program i changed it to 1 multipass vbr and put downsampling to low!
Is there a way to make the final output files smaller using DVD2SVCD??
Or is there any programs which would make it smaller!!
Also if I could change the format of the movie file from MPEG to something else would that help to make it smaller?? Are their any programs which do this??
Please Reply, thanks!!

Oh my god, it's an mpeg file! Help! :D SCNR ... please forgive my silliness ...
OK, here we go: what exactly are you aiming for? A one-CD rip? Then you should look into the avi format, namely divx. SVCDs were primarily meant to be played back on a standalone player (SVCD player or DVD player), although playback on a computer is no problem. While theoretically possible, it is not advisable to put a movie onto a single SVCD - thus 2 discs at least. As for the size of the mpeg files - fear not, you can burn them on standard 74min CD-Rs (if you burn them as SVCD). SVCDs are multitrack discs and store the mpeg streams in a track without error correction, that's why more data fits onto the disc.
If you want more control over the size of your encodes, head over to the bitrate tab in dvd2svcd - it allows you to specify the number and size of discs used to convert a film of a given length.

Im not looking for a single Cd rip, I understand that I will need two discs. I just want to make the movie files smaller so that i could fit them on a 650mb CD or at least a 700mb! The movie files are 723mb each! So i wanted to make the files smaller. Is there anything I can change in the DVD2SVCD settings to make the output file smaller?

it'll fit. if you made an mpeg-1 file, you can make a vcd. if you made an mpeg-2 file, make an svcd. because vcd's and svcd's are not data cd's, you can fit about 800MB on an 80 min cd.
when using nero, choose vcd or svcd template (whichever applies to your situation) and you'll see that your file fits.
