View Full Version : How to achieve Symetric Curve Compression.

I believe to achieve symetric curve compression using Kopei's builds, one would simply have the low/high % fields equal each other, like 25%.
However, does this simply flaten the curve from the second pass stats?
If so, that is what I am aiming to do. For some reason I find setting the high/low compression % values equal achieves better results (at least in anime).
Ok bye,

Your logical assumption is correct.
Setting low%/high% to the same value results in symmetrical curve compression.

I have used High:20% and Low:0% and hopefully give more bitrate to lowmotionscenes and take bitrate from big frames(actionframes).I hope that will give nice result:)
EDIT:Right now i drink a "Falcon extra brew" maybe a better name"Falcon extra smooth"

Hm. I don't want to repeat myself, just read my last mail in this thread ;)

Hmmm.. I thought setting low comp at 0% would lower the bitrate in low motion scenes... I think I should read Koepi's doc ones more. I'm relatively new to XviD, and my old Nandub-fashioned thinkings are still there.

I'm a bit confused. As I understand it, when I use, say 25%/25% for curve compression, the codec takes 25% from the high motion scenes and boosts the low motion scenes by the same amount (symetrical). But if I use 25%/0%, is there a difference? Does the codec still give the 25% to the low motion scenes, or are they simply discarded (resulting in a smaller file size)?
Just curious,
