Hi everybody, here's my problem.....
I want directly capture from DVB-S (PVA format?) and then make a DVD, I know some PC Sat card allow this, but only for free channel, they don't work with smart cards....
So the only solution is a HD recorder (like Nokia mediamaster 9902 s), there's a way to extract the HD and interface it with a PC? Thank you for your replies.....

well. the Nokiamediamaster got a SCSI output which you can connect to your computer.

But you are wrong about the cards, there are PCI-cards which will allow a smartcard. ie Hauppage and Technotrend.

Good Luck.

If we're talking about Technotrend's DVB-S and the OEMs thereof (Hauppauge, Siemens etc) there is a Common Interface module available for these, accomodating two CAMs. Several encryption standards (f.e. Viaccess and Conax) have been confirmed working. You have to supply the CAMs yourself though...

Thank you very much guys for your replies, so I think that Win TV Dvb-s is the best choise for what I want to do...
Do you know what is the format of the files you obtain when you record with this card? (PVA, MPG or what?)
Thanks again.

The initial software release only allowed for PVA-files but the latest release allows you to save directly to MPEG2. You can download a freeware PVA-to-MPG converter (PVAStrumento) at http://www.offeryn.de/dv.htm but I can't say if it gives a quality boost though.

EDIT:
Actually I haven't been able to try any of these products yet since I'm still waiting for my DVB-S card to be delivered. With it I have ordered the new bay-version of the CI-module and it will be available some time now in March.

If you live in Sweden (like me) you can order it at http://www.calmarecomputer.se/ like I have (at least Hauppauge's version). If you do a free text search for "dvb-s" at http://www.bugsoft.hik.se/buyer/default.asp you will find several Swedish shops that have it. If you live outside Sweden there was a link in this forum to this German shop recently that sells Technotrend's card - http://www.satland-shop.de/

Thanks for the links, I live in Italy and I found where to buy happauage dvb-s and C.I. expansion. I read in the post before that you have bought the new version of C.I. expansion, what is the difference? I need a cam SECA, do you know if this CAM is supported?
Thank you for your help.

I have ordered the new CI module, haven't got it yet. It will be available some time now in March.
On Hauppauge's technical specification page for the DVB-S, there is a list at the bottom over tested CAMs. SECA is one of them but they don't say if there are different brands...

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot to tell you the difference between the two CI-modules. The first (and older one) fits in one of your PCI-slots and you have to reach behind your computer to switch CAMs and smartcards. The new CI-module fits in a floppy bay and is accessed from the front, much more conveient.

Finally I have bougth my Hauppauge Win TV Dvb-s, so these are my impressions.....
With the drivers inside the card, the card is a shit... the vision is disturbed with orizontal lines.... then I have download the last version (2.06) from Hauppauge site, and the situation is totally changed! Now the quality is very good, like my stand alone sat decoder... and the recorder make a 1:1 copy of the video (and a timer was added). The only problem is when I want extract the file for a DVD copy, cause the resolution seems to be 544X576, and so I can't put this file in an authoring program... I try using PVAstrumento, but it doesn't allow to change resolution; now I'll try to process this file with CCE.....
Anyone have another solution?

I find the solution to my problems (thanks to Andala) with the program AVestensione, now I'm very happy, I can record sat programs at the same quality of the original (it's a 1:1 copy of the video and audio streams) and put them on a DVD-R/RW....
Thanks to all people who help me (expecially Pojken Purken).

The DVB-S/C/T only work in Europe I believe. Hauppauge in the US have some other cards for the US market, don't know the details though.
