Problem encoding to avi

Ok, this is a problem I've had going back several versions of TMPG. Hopefully someone here can help me out.

I want to rip a DVD to an MJPG avi for editing (DV may potentially be an option, but for now just MJPG). I prefer to run the source (eg: an anime episode) through TMPG's IVTC system to produce clean, progressive, 24fps output for editing (it's originally ripped from DVD by SmartRipper, then run through DVD2AVI to be pulled into TMPG). Unfortunately, if I try to save the results using TMPG's built-in save-to-avi feature, it hangs by the time it gets maybe 3 minutes into the episode.

So, instead I've been saving as MPG and then converting that to MJPG using VirtualDub. Being able to run everything through just TMPG would cut my encoding prep time pretty much in half, not to mention avoiding the quality loss of double encoding. Does anyone know of a way to get this to work properly? Are there any mpg encoding settings that may affect what TMPG does when it encodes to avi that I should watch out for?

Save the project as a .tpr file. Then use VFAPI to turn this project into a pseudo-avi and run this file in nandub.

If you save it as a MPEG, you are already compressing it, so you are already losing some quality. VFAPI shows only one frame at a time (it gets all of its info from the VOBS, the .d2v and .tpr project), but that one is uncompressed, so no quality loss.

when you use save to avi, you should the same do all the output settings in the mpg settings(size fps ecc.)
tmpg will use those settings
