In several other threads we see owners of Philips DVD-players struggle with not being able to FF/RW SVCD's over 40 minutes. See for example:

I have a DVD712 and have found no way to solve this. 2 weeks ago Philips asked me to send my player to them so that they could install a firmware-update (chip) that might solve this. My current firmware was 2.9.6.

Now a few days ago Philips wrote to me that they upgraded my player but that the update did not solve the problem. Sorry, but it seems that it simply won't be solved anytime soon.

I've been offered to get my money back, so I'll buy a new player. Any suggestions for a player that plays everything without problems?

Pioneer DV444 is very good budget player.
It supports everything. (even mpeg5.1 multichannel , mp3 + progressive scan)

The only downside is that it doesnt support svcd subtitle tracks :(
