hi

i am rather new to this so pls bear with me. i am hoping to rip dvd to svcd. after reading thru many guides and posts on this forum as well as those on vcdhelp i have decided upon using:
smartripper, dvd2avi and tmpgenc for the ripping process.

anyways, back to the point - i can succesfully rip the dvd to preferable size as well as favourable quality thru-out the movie. however in some fast action scenes, such as fast and the furious (racing part where the dudes car falls to pieces), it becomes rather pixelated.

i am currently using Automatic VBR where maximum bitrate is 2450, min is 300 and 'quality' set at 52. also have motion search precision to high quality and DC component to 10 bits. i am not using any filters as they seem to blurr the picture.

i was wondering if anyone have suggestions which might improve my situation - thanks in advance

-- one more thing, i am hoping that the svcd can be played on dvd player so does the max bitrate matter? i read that max bitrate must be below 2.5mbps - does that apply to dvd players as well?

cheers

1 -> 2 pass VBR is much better than automatic VBR, because 2pass distributes bitrate better, your action scenes will get more of it.

2 -> You say you hope to play your svcd on a standalone player : you will be surprised too see how better it will look then. A tv picture is much less precise than your monitor :):):)

Almost forgot it... it is very important for some players, when it's relatively not important for your pc.
