I use DivX to encode my movies.I have tried XviD but only at small clips.I want now to encode a whole movie.I always go for 2 cd cause i am using Ac3sound.When I'll do the first pass I should Use MPeg Quant??Or H.263? I read that Mpeg is better with 2cd rips..And when I do the final pass is it better to use modulated or Mpeg?

Thanks in advance..

Hi:

If you are going to 2 cd rips, you are better off using Mpeg quant for both passes. Mpeg quant will give you a sharper image. H.263 will give you a smoother image. The later can be good for 1 cd rips, because you wouldn't notice so much the blocks.
Modulated quantization (that i like very much) tries to give you the best from both. If the codec see's that the next frame will have a <= 3 quantizer, then it will aply Mpeg quantization. If it see's that the next frame will have >3 quantizer, then it will aply H.263 quantization. But you should go to Koepi's site and donwload his pdf explaining XviD options. Look for the thread in the top.
