How Xvid calculates sizes??

As you sure read the XviD Options Explained, you just forgot that it's 1024bytes=1k, right?

Well I know that. But why then at doom9's Xvid-Gknot guide sais that "First let's set the right codec. Just in case I set the codec to DivX4 because this will give you the correct bitrate as XviD uses 1k = 1000 whereas DivX3 uses 1k = 1024."

that's two different things.

divx4 and xvid use bitrates with 1k=1000 bytes. so for setting bitrate in cbr mode you have to be aware of this. there's a difference to divx 3.11 here which uses 1kb=1024 bytes.

totally different from that is the filesize. here 1k=1024 bytes. when setting final filesizes you have to calculate let's say 100 mb -> 100*1024 -> final size.

Surely you mean bits, not bytes.

somehow i always manage to mix them up.... of course its bits!
(why else then would it be kiloBITS? silly me ;))

still i hope moonwalker gets the point.
